Why Now?
Since the end of slavery, Black people in America have had a long and winding history of
progress, followed by setbacks. In many cases, these setbacks were born of deliberate policy decisions.
The pattern began when the promises of Reconstruction were rescinded. From there,
a straight line can be drawn to the current anti-DEI movement, with many stops along the way.
These policies were not sufficient on their own, but their presence also signaled some measure of commitment to addressing a legacy of disenfranchisement.
Instead, we now face a denial of this legacy and open hostility towards our continued progress. Finally, we realized:

We launched BlackShares as a social and professional network, dedicated to bringing millions
of Black Americans together to build a new, national Black Wall Street.
By owning our platform and working to connect all of Black America in
an effort to build businesses and access to opportunities, we take control of our influence, our content, and our economic future.
And, we invest it back into our community to finally close the gap—for good.
